Rapper Felipe Luciano Drops New Single, “Speakerphone”

Rapper Felipe Luciano overcame huge hardships on the road to getting his music to the people. He channeled a lifetime of difficult lived experiences into the sharp storytelling and wizened lyrical perspectives of albums like 2020's Legends Never Die.

Felipe Luciano was born Clifton Gordon and grew up in North Carolina. When his family relocated to Los Angeles in 2001, they found themselves homeless for a time before landing in a neighborhood rife with gang violence. Luciano became active in gangs himself, and by 2008 he was serving time in prison for gang-related crimes.

While locked up, he focused on writing lyrics informed by his experiences in the gang life, as well as taking psychology classes inspired by a fascination with human behavior. When he was released from prison, Luciano went all in pursuing a life in music. In 2016, he issued the stand-alone track "Dream," which he followed in 2017 with mixtape Soon You'll Understand.

His second project, Legendary, arrived in 2019, and the next year, now calling Miami home base, he released his third album, Legends Never Die. The record featured Gunplay on the track "With the Shit," and the rapper returned for a cameo on Luciano's stand-alone track "All I Ever Wanted" later in 2020.
